Hanging out with the cattle...

The Plein Air Austin group met at Michaelis Ranch in Kyle, Texas yesterday. Several of us were enamored with the idea of painting the cattle, who were gathered under the distant trees, and headed into the pasture with our gear. As soon as we got there, they all came over to greet us - I guess they thought we had food! This is the closest this city girl has ever been to cattle! One of them knocked over an easel, luckily, that happened before the artist had her paints out. We were so busy taking pictures and laughing that it took a long time to settle into painting mode. What a great day!

Expect to see some cow paintings in the near future!

Reunion with Austin Plein Air

I met up with the Plein Air Austin group for the first time in weeks at Boggy Creek Farm. It looked like it could rain, but I made the 1hour-plus journey into Austin, and am so glad that I did! There was a good turn out, and no rain, just sweaty "Ohio-like" heat. (I am learning that in Texas, just because you see rain clouds, does not mean the rain will actually hit the ground!)  It was a very inspiring day with fellow painters.

Here is a quick sketch I did in about an hour:
