Practicing landscapes

                                      Landscape studies of Scott Christensen paintings, 8 x 8, 8 x 10, oil

One of the best ways to improve my paintings is to have a goal that pushes me to paint more. I recently applied to and was accepted into the Burnet Plein Air Art Festival, coming up in September! So, I am preparing by practicing landscape painting techniques. These 2 paintings were done while watching a painting demonstration DVD by Scott Christensen. I painted along with him and I learned a great deal about his technique for mixing harmonious colors using a limited color palette of white, yellow, blue, and red, along with 5 grays, mixed from various combinations of these colors. There is so much to learn from other artists, and through DVDs and YouTube videos, learning from very talented artists is more accessible than ever before.

Thank you for viewing my art and sharing this journey with me.
